About the Artist
I’m Mel, and I like art. I grew up in the bustling city of Montreal, where I was exposed to art in all forms. My father and siblings are musicians, and my mother has many talents when it comes to home interiors and stained glass. I was always fascinated by nature, being a die-hard cool rock and dinosaur-loving kid. The many years I was able to enjoy my family’s cottage fed my soul with the sounds of pine needles under bare feet and the echoing laments of loons across still waters. I am a child shaped by the wonders of nature. My curiosity and familial support catalyzed my interest in the ways of art. As a young introvert, I found solace drowning myself in music and manifesting my imagination onto the pages of my sketchbooks.
As an adult, I use art as a means to heal. When faced with the cruelty of life, I always found myself reaching for my paints, pencils, or iPad. Making art has played an immense role in my journey of healing, giving me a voice when I thought I was unable to speak. It brings me back to the young girl, just having fun drawing colourful figures lost in a world of imagination and discovery. Art has always been my anchor, and I wish to share all that it has provided me with the world.
As an artist, my one wish is to touch the hearts of others. My goal is to tell my story through brush strokes and feel like others have had their stories heard through viewing and interacting with my art. I believe art is the unspoken language, able to connect people from any place or culture together. I have personally been deeply moved, inspired and impacted by the art of others. You can find links to the works of said artists peppered about this website. I very much believe art is a collaborative effort. I would not be the person I am today without the impact of other artists. Please enjoy my various drawings and paintings in the gallery, and my written musings in the blog.
I hope my art speaks to you.

I strive to express feelings and thoughts that cannot be put into words through my artwork. All of my original art is inspired by personal experiences… I paint my pain. Every one of my pieces is different in its own way; every piece means something different to me. For this reason, most of my work takes several months, or often years, to complete.
That being said, my goal is not to share my experiences, but rather connect with others through their own interpretations of my art. It gives me joy to see someone connect with one of my pieces on a personal/spiritual level.
This is why I share my art.

My introduction would be gravely incomplete without the mention of my loving studio assistant, Xena. She takes her job very seriously, providing moral support in the form of snuggles and quality checks between long naps. I never work alone thanks to her company.
